FLY FISHING ARGENTINA

Argentina offers you the widest range of opportunities in what regards to sport fishing in the most varied geographical sceneries you have ever imagined, from warm areas and woodlands in northeast and mesopotamia, up to the freshness of patagonian rivers, lakes and streams.
In these places you may find different classic sport fishing methods. Fly Cast, Spinning and Trolling. Patagonia Fly Fishing Programs

In the Northeastern and Mesopotamian areas, where you may find plenty of Dorados and Tarariras, they normally use these three methods, being Trolling and Spinning the most common ones and on the other hand Fly Cast is used by people who know about this art.

Due to the size of the fishes captured and that you need to use a steeled tippet and heavier equipment, which difficults the throwings. Anyway it is very exciting with any of these methods.

On the contrary in Patagonia, trout’s paradise, Fly Cast is getting more popular each day, due to regulations that compel to use this method as for the practice of Catch and Release (return fishes to water) because it is not allowed to sacrifice any specimen that belongs to the salmon’s kind obtained from Patagonian streams and rivers and this way it is easier to release them harming them as less as possible. That is why Spinning is used almost exclusively in big rivers and in lakes only Troling is used, that’s because in rivers you can only use flat bottomed non motor vessels from which you may only practice Fly Cast.

San Martin de Los Andes
This region, located in the south of the Province of Neuquén is surrounded by rivers and streams within a ratio of about 60 kms (37 miles). What makes it particularly attractive because of it’s environment diversity and the different possibilities this involves. From variable landscapes up to different shaped rivers or streams, where you may find Rainbow trouts, Marrones and Fontinalis.

In the beginning of the season (November/December) fishing is reduced to rivers and streams mouths which go in or come out from several lakes in the area. Normally from mid-December to late December begins the opportunity to fish in rivers and streams, depending on the thawing and rains ending, that influence on water’s volume.

Fishing season begins in November and ends in mid-April, being extended in some places up to late May. In Patagonia summer is a dry season, nevertheless some days may be cold or rainy. The biggest emergings start during late December and up to season’s end what makes trouts rise and it’s perfect to fish with dry fly.
